Brian Preston - Young Farmer Representative
Brian Preston, of Quincy, is serving a one-year term as Young Farmer Representative. He was appointed to the board after being selected to chair Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) Young Farmer Committee, which represents MFB members between the ages of 18 and 35.
A fourth-generation farmer, Preston operates a dairy farm with his father (Keith), uncle (Glenn) and cousin (Adam). The family raises 600 head of dairy cattle and grows corn and alfalfa on nearly 1,000 acres.
Preston earned a bachelor's degree in agribusiness from Michigan State University in 2000. Upon graduation, he became the campaign manager for Larry Julian's successful re-election to the state House of Representatives as an AgriPac-endorsed "Friend of Agriculture."
That same year, Preston was hired by the Michigan Department of Agriculture as a new market specialist, a position he held for close to three years. In 2003, he returned to the family farm.
Preston belongs to the Branch County Farm Bureau where he serves on the local board of directors. In the past, he has chaired the Branch County Farm Bureau Membership Committee and served on the Policy Development Committee.
At the state level, Preston is serving his second term on MFB's statewide Young Farmer Committee. In 2008, he was named the state winner of MFB's Young Farmer Discussion Meet, a public speaking contest in which young farmers discuss current agricultural issues and are judged on their timed analysis of each topic, delivery, and cooperative attitude.
Outside of Farm Bureau, Preston belongs to the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) and is involved with MMPA committees at the local, district and state levels. He also is an active member of the Pine Ridge Bible Church.
Preston's wife Carrie is a high school agriscience teacher and FFA advisor at the Branch Area Career Center. The couple has two small boys, Jackson and Austin.
