Joe Ott - Young Farmer Representative
Joe Ott, of Sand Creek in Lenawee County, is the Young Farmer Representative on the Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Board of Directors and chairman of the MFB Young Farmer Committee. In these positions, he represents Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18 and 35.
Ott and his wife Allison operate a 400-head custom feedlot for cattle. Ott also works for his in-laws, Doug and Londa Pickles, as operation manager on Pickles Farms. The farm produces corn, soybeans and wheat on 2,200 acres, and is verified in the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program Farmstead and Cropping Systems.
Ott hails from Delaware, Ohio, and moved to Michigan in 2000. Prior to his current job, he worked for The Andersons as a fertilizer applicator and serviced golf courses. Before relocating to Michigan, Ott worked two seasons for a custom combining team, traveling from Texas to Canada. His work history also includes employment on an Ohio hog farm.
Locally, Ott is an active member of the Lenawee County Farm Bureau. He has served on the county Farm Bureau's Membership and Young Farmer Committees. In 2008, he was honored with the Lenawee County Farm Bureau's Outstanding Young Farm Employee Award. Growing up, Ott also participated in FFA.
The Otts are members of the Weston United Methodist Church. The couple has two young children, DJ and Ellie.
