Farm Bureau members reappointed to corn, apple committees

Several county Farm Bureau members are among Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's recent reappointments to the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan and Michigan Apple Committee.

Corn Marketing Program of Michigan

Allegan County Farm Bureau member Brett Brink, of Hamilton, is the operations manager at Golden Grain Farms. Brink is reappointed to represent District 4 growers. 

Washtenaw County Farm Bureau member Philip Gordon, of Saline, is the owner of Gordon Valley Farms. Gordon is reappointed to represent District 3 growers.   

Saginaw County Farm Bureau member Daniel Keenan, of Merrill, is the owner of Keenan is reappointed to represent District 8 growers. 

Scott Miller, of Elsie, is the owner of Miller Family Farms. Miller is reappointed to represent District 6 growers. 

The appointees will serve a term through March 2027.

Other growers currently serving on the committee include:

  • Matt Holysz of Vicksburg, a Kalamazoo County Farm Bureau member
  • Ned Wyse of Camden, a Hillsdale County Farm Bureau member
  • David Rupprecht of Vassar, a Tuscola County Farm Bureau member
  • Paul Wagner of Grawn, a Northwest Michigan Farm Bureau member
  • Kory Brodbeck of Woodland

The Corn Marketing Program of Michigan enhances the economic position of Michigan corn growers by providing for the growth and expansion of the corn industry in Michigan through foreign and domestic market development, promotion, and research that will stimulate the demand for corn.    

Michigan Apple Committee

Ottawa County Farm Bureau member Philip Schwallier, of Sparta, is the owner of Schwallier's Country Basket and a recently retired district horticulture and marketing agent at Michigan State University. Schwallier is reappointed to represent District 2 growers.    

Christopher Alpers, of Lake Leelanau, is the vice president of operations for Redpath Orchards. Alpers is reappointed to represent District 4 growers.   

The appointees will serve a term through April 2027.

  • Mike Dietrich of Conklin, an Ottawa County Farm Bureau member  
  • Kim Kropf of Lowell, a Kent County Farm Bureau member
  • Eric Roosinck of Fremont, a Newaygo County Farm Bureau member
  • Caleb Coulter of New Era, an Oceana County Farm Bureau member
  • Greg Kugel of Niles, a Berrien County Farm Bureau member

The Michigan Apple Committee is dedicated to improving the profitability of the fresh and processed apple industries by coordinating market development, educational activities and research efforts that help ensure the sector’s continued success.
