Gubernatorial candidates will debate agriculture at March 19 forum
Candidates vying to be Michigan’s next governor will lay out their agricultural agendas on March 19 for this campaign season’s first gubernatorial candidate forum dedicated to agriculture, Michigan’s second largest—and growing—industry. Matt Kapp, (800) 292-2680, ext. 2027
Farm Bureau seeks teens for Young People's Citizenship Seminar
The Michigan Farm Bureau is seeking students for its 46th annual Young People's Citizenship Seminar (YPCS). YPCS is a five-day seminar which teaches young people about the democratic political process and how to become informed, active citizens. Local farmers lobby legislators on government reform, state spending

2009 Michigan crop values down 5 percent
The preliminary farm value of Michigan field crops, fruits, and vegetables produced in 2009 was approximately $3.4 billion, a 5 percent decrease from the 2008 crop production value. That's according to findings from the Michigan Field Office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Contact: Bob Boehm, (800) 292-2680, ext. 2023
New HumaneWatch Web site scrutinizes Humane Society of the United States
The nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) has launched a new Web site, HumaneWatch.org, which analyzes the activities of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), essentially serving as a "watchdog" for the supposed "dog-watchers" the center says. Food trends
According to a recent Omnibus survey commissioned by Heinz, Americans' favorite comfort foods are soups and stews, fried or baked chicken and homemade mashed potatoes. The survey also found that soup is the comfort food that people feel the least guilty about eating.
