GRAND RAPIDS, Dec. 5, 2008 — The Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Board of Directors has a new Promotion and Education (P&E) Representative; but otherwise the board is made up of familiar faces, including the re-election of Sanilac County dairy farmer Wayne H. Wood to another two-year term as president of the state’s largest general farm organization.
The election activity wrapped up MFB’s 89th annual meeting, Dec. 2-5 in Grand Rapids.
Joining the 17-member board of directors is Merisa Campbell, who will serve a one-year term as the Promotion and Education Representative. Campbell, of Johannesburg in Otsego County, was appointed to the board after being selected to chair MFB’s Promotion and Education Committee.
Campbell and her husband Linc run a cow-calf operation and a commercial hay business with Linc’s brother Larry. They also own and operate an over-the-road trucking business.
In other election news, MFB membership re-elected the following individuals. District and At-Large Directors serve two-year terms. The Young Farmer Representative serves a one-year term.
*Brent Hotchkin, of Concord, will continue to represent District 2, which covers members in Calhoun, Jackson, Hillsdale, Branch and Lenawee counties. Hotchkin manages a family farm that produces soybeans, corn, alfalfa and wheat, as well as finished Holsteins.
*Paul Koeman, of Hamilton, continues his service as District 4 Director, representing members in Allegan, Barry, Ottawa, Kent and Ionia counties. Koeman grows corn, wheat, and soybeans and raises contract hogs.
*Carl Bednarski, of Caro, will continue to represent District 6, covering members in Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, Lapeer, St. Clair and Macomb counties. He grows corn, dry beans, sugar beets and soybeans.
*Michael R. Mulders, of Essexville, will continue his service as District 8 Director, representing members in Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Midland and Saginaw counties. Mulders produces sugar beets, wheat, corn and dry beans, as well as fresh market produce to retail at the farm’s roadside market.
*Patrick McGuire, of Ellsworth, continues his service as District 10 Director, representing members in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, Cheboygan, Otsego, Crawford, Roscommon, Presque Isle, Montmorency, Oscoda, Ogemaw, Alpena, Alcona and Iosco counties. McGuire farms 650 acres and operates a farm market and greenhouse, growing cherries, apples, peaches, pears and apricots. He also grows vegetables.
*Andrew Hagenow, of Rockford, will continue his leadership as a
Director At-Large. Hagenow operates a dairy and cash crop farm.
*Doug Darling, of Maybee, maintains his role as Director At-Large. Darling is a partner in Darling Farms, which produces corn, soybeans and wheat on 1,350 acres.
*Ben LaCross, of Cedar, was re-elected chair of MFB’s Young Farmer Committee, maintaining his position on the board as Young Farmer Representative. In this role, he represents the interests of MFB members between the ages of 18 and 35. The second-generation farmer grows tart cherries, sweet cherries and plums on 500 acres, primarily in Leelanau County.
