Agricultural Communicator of the Year Award Winner - Terry Katz
Cutline: Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) District Director Josh Wunsch presents Sturgis Journal reporter Terry Katz with the 2011 Agricultural Communicator of the Year Award Dec. 1 at MFB’s 92nd Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids. The award honors journalists and other media professionals for outstanding work helping to “tell the story of agriculture” by informing and educating the non-farming public about the state’s second-largest industry.

Agricultural Educator of the Year Award winner - Colleen Scott-Keiser
Cutline: Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Promotion and Education Committee Vice Chair Brenda VanHouten presents Colleen Scott-Keiser (right), a 20-year veteran of Webberville Community Schools, with the 2011 Agricultural Educator of the Year Award Dec. 1 at MFB’s 92nd annual meeting in Grand Rapids. The award recognizes a teacher who excels at integrating agricultural concepts into the curriculum and challenges students to develop critical thinking skills through the analysis of agricultural issues and information.

Agricultural Promoter of the Year Award winner - Paul Marks

Best Collaborative Conservation Project - Wexford & Missaukee
Cutline: The first award from Michigan Farm Bureau and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for Best Collaborative Conservation Project was shared by the Wexford and Missaukee County Farm Bureaus. County Activities of Excellence Award - Branch Co.
Cutline: Doug Bloom, right, president of the Branch County Farm Bureau, accepts the County Activities of Excellence Award on behalf of his county from Michigan Farm Bureau President Wayne H. Wood. The county Farm Bureau received the honor for transforming an ordinary trailer into a mobile agricultural education exhibit.

Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award Winner-Wallace Heuser
Cutline: Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) President Wayne H. Wood (left) applauds Wallace E. Heuser (right), the 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award, MFB’s highest honor. Heuser, of Van Buren County, was recognized for his long career promoting the value of high-quality, high-efficiency fruit production and revolutionizing the apple industry worldwide through the introduction of new apple varieties.

Ecology Leadership Award - Shooks Farms
Cutline: Within two years, the Shooks family will look back on the100th anniversary of Shooks Farms. But today, after winning Michigan Farm Bureau's Ecology Leadership Award, Bryan Shooks is looking to the next 100 years.

Excellence in Agricuture Award-Melanie Block
Cutline: Melanie Block, of Muskegon County, is the winner of Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) 2011 Excellence in Agriculture Award. Part of her prize package is a lease on a New Holland tractor courtesy of Burnips Equipment Co. Block, second from right, poses with husband Matt, to her left. The honor included $500 from Ford and a prize from the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee. On the tractor are Block's sons Trevor, top, and Peyton. At left are Craig VanderKolk and Gayle VanderKolk. Carl VanderKolk is at the right. This award recognizes young farmers, either individuals or married couples, who do not derive the majority of their income from a personally owned agricultural operation but who actively contribute to and grow through their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to compete for the national Young Farmer and Rancher Excellence in Agriculture Award at the American Farm Bureau Federation 93rd Convention and Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Jan. 8-11, 2012.

Harvest for All Most Innovative Award-Eaton Co
Cutline: The Most Innovative Award for a unique way to help fight hunger through Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) Harvest for All program went to the Eaton County Farm Bureau. The county Farm Bureau was recognized for the "Pick a Peck for People" event held at The Country Mill Orchard in Charlotte owned by Steve Tennes. Here, Tennes accepts the award on behalf of the Eaton County Farm Bureau. Newly elected District 9 director–Ben LaCross
Cutline: Leelanau County fruit grower Ben LaCross, of Cedar, is the District 9 Director representing Farm Bureau members in Benzie, Kalkaska, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee and Wexford counties.

Newly elected young farmer representative – Brian Preston
Cutline: Branch County dairy farmer Brian Preston, of Quincy, is the Young Farmer Representative on the Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Board of Directors and chairman of the MFB Young Farmer Committee. In these positions, he represents Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18 and 35.

Outstanding Young Agricultural Leader-Bret Schapman
Cutline: Bret C. Schapman of Macomb County, is the winner of Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) 2011 Outstanding Young Agricultural Leader Award. Part of his prize package is a trip for two to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, sponsored by Great Lakes Hybrids. Joining Schapman from Great Lakes Hybrids, from left are Jonathon Harfst, Dennis Steinbauer, Jeff Reinbold, and Gary Campbell. This award recognizes a successful young farmer for outstanding leadership roles in Farm Bureau, agriculture, and his or her local community. Contestants are judged on their ability to actively serve in leadership roles while managing a successful farm operation. The winner also will receive $500 from GreenStone Farm Credit Services; a prize from the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee; and a trip to the American Farm Bureau Federation 93rd Convention and Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Jan. 8-11, 2012.

Outstanding Young Employee-Christopher McCallister
Cutline: Christopher McCallister, of Lenawee County, is the winner of Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) 2011 Outstanding Young Farm Employee Award. Part of his prize package includes a free equipment lease courtesy of Michigan CAT. This award recognizes young farmers for their contributions as employees to the success and long-term profitability of the operations where they are employed. Nominees are also judged on their leadership involvement in Farm Bureau, agriculture and their community. The winner will receive a prize package courtesy of Michigan CAT, $500 from GreenStone Farm Credit Services, a prize from the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee, and a trip to the American Farm Bureau Federation 93rd Convention and Annual Meeting in Honolulu, Jan. 8-11, 2012.

Outstanding Young Farmer Committe Chair-Corey Oeschger
Cutline: Corey Oeschger, center, is the 2011 winner of the Outstanding County Young Farmer Chair Award from the Michigan Farm Bureau Young Farmer Committee. Oeschger, of Bay Port, is chairman of the Huron County Farm Bureau Young Farmer Committee. As the winner, he received a $5,000 voucher for DEKALB and Asgrow seed compliments of DEKALB and Asgrow. Volunteer of the Year Award - Stephanie Schafer

Young Farmer Achievement Award-Jonathan Findlay

Part of his prize package is a lease on a Kubota Tractor courtesy of the Kubota Tractor Corporation. Young Farmer Discussion Meet Winner-Kris Wardin

Part of his prize package is an all-expense-paid trip to Iowa to visit the John Deere world headquarters and a John Deere factory, courtesy of AIS Equipment Corp.
