Charlevoix County Farm Bureau holds annual meeting
Members and guests were treated to a wonderful dinner prepared by the Boyne City Public Schools Culinary Art Class on September 19, at the annual meeting of the Charlevoix County Farm Bureau. A highlight of the meeting was local farmers debating and approving policy on issues affecting Charlevoix County. The Charlevoix County Farm Bureau Policy Development Committee, chaired by Kim Korthase of Boyne City, recommended policies dealing with local, state and national affairs such as TB, Michigan Forestry Assistance Program, Reclassification of Agriculture Land, Alternative Energy, Water and Juice Bottle Returns, Value-Added Agriculture and Purchase of Development Rights. Policies passed on state and national issues will now be forwarded to the Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Policy Development Committee for recommendation to the state annual meeting in late November in Grand Rapids. Gold and Silver Star awards were presented to committee chairs for program achievement during 2007. Gold stars were presented to Tom Wieland, Membership; Tim Matchett, Land Use; Joe Seidel, Promotion and Education; Tim Matchett, Member Involvement.
