Eaton County Farm Bureau to Hold Annual Meeting
Eaton County Farm Bureau members will set their 2009 policy agenda during the organization's annual meeting, Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Eaton Area Senior Center located at 804 S. Cochran Ave, Charlotte. Local farmers will discuss, debate and approve policies regarding issues affecting Eaton County agriculture and natural resources.
The Eaton County Farm Bureau Policy Development Committee, chaired by Lynn Stanke of Charlotte, will recommend local, state and national policies. The committee will present resolutions regarding Carbon Credits, Slow Moving Vehicles, Food Safety & Quality, Wild Turkey Damage to Crops, Truth in Labeling, Deregulation of Co-Generated Electrical Power, Natural Gas to Fuel existing & new engines, and more.
Approved state and national policies will be forwarded to the Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) Policy Development Committee, comprised of county Farm Bureau members representing specific districts. The state-level committee will consolidate county recommendations and present the policies to the delegation at MFB's 2008 annual meeting in December.
Local Farm Bureau members will also elect directors to the county board at the meeting. Mike McManus or Kalamo-Carmel Townships and Jeremy McKay the Young Farmer Chair, will be retiring from the board of directors.
Other activities on tap for this year's annual meeting include award presentations for the Volunteer of the Year, Educator of the Year and Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award. The county will also be hosting the first annual silent auction to raise money for scholarship funds and will continue the tradition of a dessert contest.
