Gierke Blueberries 2008

August 9 - A steady stream of customers kept the scale busy at the Gierke Blueberry Farm in Chassell on the opening day of their self picking season.  Larry Stream and Donna Nelson came from Mansfield, Michigan, near Crystal Falls, picking 23 pounds in about an hour.  "We'll be back", Donna said, as they left for the day.  Another picker brought several buckets to the stand, Joanne Kuntze, of Chassell, with her granddaughter, Emma.  Her comment of the day was "It was fabulous."

The Gierke's charge $2 a pound from self pickers and are open when conditions allow, depending on how picked out the fields get, as they have to allow time for more berries to ripen.  For reports, one can visit http://gierkeblueberryfarm.blogspot.com or get a recorded message by calling 906-523-6112.
