Apples for Teachers

Huron County Farm Bureau believes that Agriculture and Education are indeed the perfect combination to teach our young people, the backbone of our future.  With this in mind, for the 13th year Huron County Farm Bureau, along with it's Promotion & Education Committee, sponsored Apples for Teachers Day, recognizing all Huron County teachers.  Decorated baskets containing apples, candy and other goodies, were hand delivered to each school including public, parochial, and country schools.  This annual event was born from the idea that there definitely is a need to applaud our teachers for their continued dedication to excellence in education.  The Apples for Teachers program targets some 900 teachers and staff at over 40 elementary intermediate, junior high, senior high, tech and learning centers.

Volunteers gathered at the Huron County Farm Bureau Building and worked feverishly to decorate and fill colorful baskets overflowing with apples and other yummy items.  We all realize that without our area teachers to plant the seeds of education, and nourish them with their care and constant dedication, our young people would be sadly lacking and unprepared to make wise choices when it comes to their professional paths in life.

The project is received with warm enthusiasm by all the schools, allowing Farm Bureau to reach its goal of acknowledging these wonderful educators for the difference they make in our children's lives, and the continued benefits we all gain by their contributions to our communities.

The community should be proud to know that Countryside Transportation of Sebewaing, Leipprandt Orchards of Pigeon, Bad Axe Tire, McDonald's Food & Family Center and Huron County Farm Bureau, all of Bad Axe, generously supported this program by donating all the apples needed to complete this event.

Volunteers working on this program and/or delivering apples were Sharlene Hagen, Debbie Kubacki, Bonnie Haag, Nancy Laeder, Leanne Schuette, Laura Farr and Debbie Armbruster.

Farm Bureau salutes our Huron County Teachers and staff, as well as the business in our county, which show such outstanding support of our many outreach programs.  They certainly do make a difference in our community!  Our thanks to all involved with this program!
