June 17, 2009 Barry County Farm Bureau members with the help of Barry County Christian School volunteered their time to lay sod for The Homes For Our Troops Home built for Joshua Hoffman in Barry County. Joshua Hoffman was injured serving the country in Fallujah, Iraq in January of 2008 which left him paralyzed and in need of 24 hour care. During January 2009 Joshua and his fiancé Heather moved into their home built by local volunteers.
Barry County Farm Bureau got 3,000 yards of sod donated by the following local sod farms: Ludema & Boyink Sod Farm, Witt Sod Farm, Hi-Lo Acres Sod Farm, AAA Turf and McCleod Sod Farm. On June 17, 2009 sod was laid on the one acre lot. Local farmer John Seeber donated his time and tractor to unload and move sod. Barry County Christian School students and Farm Bureau members spent the day laying sod on the lot completing the yard. Josh and Heather were very happy to finally have green grass!
