An Emergency Management Seminar on April 4 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds in Saline.
Doing everything possible to prevent an accident is paramount, however; having an emergency preparedness plan in place is also imperative because knowing what to do if an accident occurs could save your life or the life of a loved one!
Carl Hein and Jeff Foulke’s presentation entitled: “So Now the Accident Has Happened...” will center around what farmers and family members should do if an emergency occurs on their farm. This will include:
• Initial actions to make the area safer
• A brief discussion on first aid
• How to assist emergency responders
• Some things NOT to do.
There will be a tractor rolled over onto a manikin to prompt discussion and illustrate some points during the presentation.
Hein, who lives near Pinckney, is a Lieutenant with the Ann Arbor Fire Department. Jeff Foulke who lives near Manchester is a Captain and Emergency Medical Technician with the Pittsfield Township Fire Department.
Amy Gilhouse from the Washtenaw County Conservation District and Craig Anderson manager of the Michigan Farm Bureau Labor and Safety Services Department will also share information with attendees.
Presentations will be repeated throughout the day. Light refreshments and a free lunch will be served. Mark your calendar and plan to join us. It could make all the difference one day.
