Local Resolutions


TRAFFIC LIGHT

Gladwin County Farm Bureau encourages local officials to conduct a traffic study to determine whether a traffic light is needed at the intersection of James Robertson Drive/Sports Complex and M-61.

DEER MANAGEMENT

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports comprehensive deer management controls be enacted throughout the state to reduce deer numbers, including additional special hunts permitted throughout the year to help reduce these numbers.

FARM TO SCHOOL

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports more federal funding/monies being used for farmer distribution, appropriate storage facilities, farmer education, and canning/freezing equipment for local school kitchens to utilize the Farm To School programs in an effort to assist our region in sustaining healthy farms, healthy schools, and healthy children.

GRADUATION CREDITS

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports allowing local schools to have some flexibility on what counts as graduation credit requirements.

MOSQUITO CONTROL - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports the implementation of a county wide mosquito control system.

STOP SIGNS - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports enhancing all county stop signs by adding a reflective strip to the stop sign post.


State Resolutions


DRIVING TESTS

Gladwin County Farm Bureau opposes mandatory driving tests of any specific age group in order to revoke driving privileges.  We would rather this decision be left up to family and/or medical professionals.

MDA BUDGET

Gladwin County Farm Bureau encourages re-establishment of fertilizer inspection and seed inspection programs to confirm the amounts, quality, and standards of the product being purchased.

OIL LEASING

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports mandating a minimal royalty payment of 1/8th of the gross proceeds measured at the well head to be paid to the landowner in the cases of leasing oil right lands.

BOTTLE DEPOSITS

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports adding deposits on all beverage containers to our current bottle bill law.

ENERGY SOURCES - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports ways to promote more renewable and local types of energies here in the State of Michigan and the United States, especially support for the promotion of additional nuclear power plants in Michigan.

TERM LIMITS - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports an extension of term limits to 6 two-year terms for representatives and 4 four-year terms for Senators.

HORSE SLAUGHTER - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports further education of the public concerning the repercussions that the current horse slaughter legislation is having on the horse industry, and would encourage our legislators to reinstate the humane slaughter of horses.


National Resolutions


CAP AND TRADE

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports voluntary cap and trade as long as agriclutre is not capped and there is an opportunity for all of agriculture to participate in an offset program.

HEALTH CARE

Gladwin County Farm Bureau opposes legislation that would require farmers to purchase health insurance for their seasonal employees and/or their small staff of only a few employees.

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports legislation that would allow farmers a tax credit or other incentive if they choose to purchase health insurance.

Gladwin County Farm Bureau opposes any government sponsored health care program/insurance that is funded by the taxing of any agricultural commodity, i.e. a sweetener tax.

HORSE SLAUGHTER

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports further education of the public concerning the repercussions that the current horse slaughter legislation is having on the horse industry, and would encourage our legislators to reinstate the humane slaughter of horses.

TAXABLE DEDUCTION - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports a change in the tax code stating self employed persons should have a tax deduction for their health care premiums.

CAPITAL GAINS CREDITS - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports a capital gains tax credit be provided in the case of selling current farm land to beginning or young farmers, provided that the land is continued to be designated as agricultural land.

AGGRESSIVE AGRICULTURAL APPROACH - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau encourages continued implementation of an aggressive approach to combating issues related to agriculture.  Farm Bureau must continue to find ways to relate these issues to the general public instead of being reactionary.  This should be an educational process that is backed up by facts rather than emotion or fear.

INCREASED INCENTIVES - REAFFIRMATION

Gladwin County Farm Bureau supports increasing incentives for competitive drilling, including angle and offset drilling, and other types of energy explorations.  Streamline the permit process to expedite the process of energy exploration.
