County Road Commission

High cost of fuel and other inputs continue to impact the daily cost of operating the County Road Commission. The state of Michigan continues to have budget problems impacting the funding of county road commissions. Hillsdale County Farm Bureau supports changing the role of road commission engineer-manager to an elected position in an effort to increase the efficiency of the road commission. FAILED

Young Farmer Training

As the future of agriculture is in the hands of young farmers, we believe this group of farmers deserves all the help possible to assist in preparing them for the future. Be it resolved Hillsdale County Farm Bureau develop and sponsor training seminars focusing on profitability and marketing. ADOPTED

FFA Seminars/Tours

Be it resolved, Hillsdale County Farm Bureau sponsor career seminars as well as farm tours for the county FFA chapters to further the interest of high school students in agriculture. ADOPTED

Promotion Employee

Agriculture has been receiving a lot of bad press recently about high food prices, and the use of scientifically based improvements in the production of agricultural products. We believe Hillsdale County Farm Bureau should be proactive in promoting agriculture. Farming has become so demanding of labor that those involved in agriculture do not have the time needed to meet the public and promote our products. Be it resolved Hillsdale County Farm Bureau commissions the board of directors to pursue the hiring of a part-time person to promote agriculture. FAILED

Use of Nuclear Energy

Be it resolved Hillsdale County Farm Bureau encourages the state of Michigan to pursue the use of nuclear energy as a source of electrical power for the state. ADOPTED

National Resolutions

English as Official Language

As we encounter more Spanish language in our everyday work place, Hillsdale County Farm Bureau encourages the United States legislature to pass a law that English be the official language of the United States. ADOPTED
