Lansing Legislative Seminar

Lansing Legislative Seminar

Each year, Farm Bureau organizes face-to-face meetings with hundreds of Farm Bureau leaders and their respective elected officials. These annual "lobbying" missions are a key element in the Farm Bureau grassroots policy development and policy execution process.

President John Talsma, Judy Szyszkoski and Carol Saari attended the Lansing Legislative Seminar at the Lansing Center.  After attending 4 meetings about issues affecting farmers, there was a reception for legislators to meet constituents.  Representative Lahti and Senator Prusi both attended and were made aware of some concerns, most relavent were Governor Granholm's proposed budget cuts.  Since agriculture is the second largest industry in the state, Farm Bureau members believe the Michigan Department of Agriculture should not be combined with other agencies, and with 0.38 percent of the general fund going to the MDA, that funding should not be cut.

Promotion & Education

Promotion & Education

The goal of the Promotion and Education program is to educate Michigan consumers about agriculture through working with children and schools and coordinating public outreach programs to promote and educate about agriculture. In addition, the Promotion and Education program strives to educate farmers on issues impacting agriculture.
