Community Action Groups

This group of friends and neighbors meets monthly to discuss key issues affecting agriculture. Whether the issue is zoning, community planning, school finance, or even a neighborhood beautification project, a Community Action Group is the perfect tool to find solutions, gain knowledge, share ideas, and take action.

Lansing Legislative Seminar

Lansing Legislative Seminar

Each year, Farm Bureau organizes face-to-face meetings with hundreds of Farm Bureau leaders and their respective elected officials. These annual "lobbying" missions are a key element in the Farm Bureau grassroots policy development and policy execution process.

The 2012 Lansing Legislative Seminar will be held on February 15th.  The 2011 seminar was attended by: Mark Masserant, Debbie Masserant, Paul Marks, Dan Cable, Gene Brost, Roger Bezek, John Delmotte and Jason Ruhlig.  Monroe County Farm Bureau members are encouraged to participate in this seminar.  If you are interested, please contact us at (734) 269-3275.

Policy Development Committee

This committee has the responsibility of developing Farm Bureau policy recommendations on local, state and national issues by encouraging the study and discussion of issues by our regular members.  They draft a slate of well-considered policy recommendations to be presented for consideration at the County Annual Meeting each September.  Elgin Darling and Mary Lou Smith are the Co-Chairs of this committee in 2011/2012.  To get more information on this committee, or to volunteer your time, contact us at (734) 269-3275.

Promotion & Education

Promotion & Education

The goal of the Promotion and Education program is to educate Michigan consumers about agriculture through working with children and schools and coordinating public outreach programs to promote and educate about agriculture. In addition, the Promotion and Education program strives to educate farmers on issues impacting agriculture.

Washington Legislative Seminar

Washington Legislative Seminar

Young Farmer

Young Farmer

The Young Farmer program is designed to develop leadership potential for men and women between the ages of 18 and 35.

The 2012 State and National Young Farmer Leaders' Conference will be held in conjunction in Grand Rapids on February 17-20. The 2011 Conference was attended by John Delmotte, Brittany Delmotte, Sarah Schafer, Mark Mathe, Ethan Heck, Chris Heck, Anna Sahloff, Jason Sahloff and William Cable.

Young People's Citizenship Seminar

Young People's Citizenship Seminar

Over two hundred twenty of the top students from Michigan convene each year in late June to learn about world economic and political systems and conduct their own mock election. Sponsored by county Farm Bureaus across the state, the Citizenship Seminar has been conducted for over 35 years and has provided leadership skills for over 5,000 of Michigan's youth.

The 2012 seminar will be held June 25 - 28 at the Northwood University in Midland, MI.  The 2011 seminar was attended by Libby Heil, William Harnica, Regan O'Connor and Ian Darling.  Participants in 2012 should be juniors or seniors in the 2012-2013 school year and have not previously attended this seminar.  If you or someone you know is interested in attending YPCS, contact us at (734) 269-3275.
