Farm Bureau honors Pentwater member for service, dedication
Kathy Walicki of Pentwater has been recognized by Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) as the organization's Volunteer of the Month for February 2006. Walicki manages the Oceana County MSU Extension office, putting her at heart of the area's farming community - a position she uses to her advantage in her Farm Bureau activities.
Being in close contact with producers every day at the Extension office puts Walicki in a favorable position from which to carry out Farm Bureau programs. As chair of her county Farm Bureau Promotion and Education (P&E) committee, she has been successful in organizing such activities as the Agriculture Week poster contest, informational booths at local fairs and festivals, and Agriculture in the Classroom lessons into area schools.
In addition to her P&E activities, Walicki has chaired the county annual meeting committee and been a delegate to the MFB State Annual Meeting. She also chairs her county Farm Bureau's information committee, helping to build and maintain better relations with local print and broadcast media.
"Kathy has spearheaded the consolidation of the various commodity banquets within the county, and her efforts have led to the formation of a countywide agriculture banquet," wrote Oceana County Farm Bureau Vice President Todd Fox, who nominated Walicki for the Volunteer of the Month honor. "This recent effort and the excellent job Kathy continues to do serving as our P&E chair give us reason to celebrate.
"The important work of placing a good face on agriculture requires all of our efforts, but Oceana County considers itself lucky to have Kathy keeping it organized."
