Farm Bureau honors Bay County member for service, dedication
Bay County Farm Bureau's outreach programs, taking agricultural education into the classrooms of local schools, prosper in large part thanks to the efforts of Sue LeCronier. In recognition of those efforts, and her participation in other activities central to the Farm Bureau mission, she has been named Michigan Farm Bureau's (MFB) Volunteer of the Month for April 2008.
Sue and her husband Derek LeCronier live and farm near Freeland, raising beef cattle, sheep, swine and horses in addition to corn, soybeans, wheat and hay. The couple also operates LeCronier Baby Acres, a petting farm offering area residents an opportunity to come face-to-face with common livestock animals.
LeCronier has been a strong volunteer for the Bay County Farm Bureau's Promotion and Education program. Laying the groundwork for a recent Ag in the Classroom event, LeCronier worked behind the scenes to recruit volunteers to take agricultural education lessons into Bay County elementary school classrooms. Once she had all the pieces in order, she took her own place alongside the volunteer educators she's assembled and taught several classes herself.
"Volunteers like Sue make county Farm Bureaus work and move forward," wrote her nominator for Volunteer of the Month honors. "She is positive, fair and works hard to include all people. She can be counted on to do all the 'dirty jobs' that are needed to make programs run smoothly."
In addition to her work in the Promotion and Education program, LeCronier has frequently represented the interests of Bay County farmers at MFB's State Annual Meeting and Lansing Legislative Seminar. She has also volunteered at the Michigan State Fair's Miracle of Life exhibit and the Project RED (Rural Education Day) event MFB hosts during its state annual meeting.
