The county Farm Bureau's Local History Team commissioned a wooden sign to honor the county’s 19 centennial farms.
“These farms that have been such big parts of the community, the county Farm Bureau wanted to thank them with this recognition,” said Sonya Novotny, MFB regional representative in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.
Each farm is honored with its own placard, hung underneath a banner sign that collectively commemorates all the local 100-year operations.
Ogemaw County Farm Bureau member Jeff Janish created the sign, which will stand within the fairgrounds’ antique village area during warm-weather months. It will be stored overwinter to protect it from the elements.
Ogemaw County Farm Bureau’s Local History Team consists of Roberta Beck (chair), Gayle Bennett and Katie Weber. Assisting with the project were Sally Rae from the Ogemaw County Historical Society and Evelyn Delaney of the Ogemaw County Fair Board.
