Hop Growers of Michigan recently awarded the first “Chinook Cup” at their First Quarter General Assembly at Lansing Brewing Company. Modeled after the national Cascade Cup, the award goes to the hop grower with the best Chinook hop judged on aroma, appearance and analytical test results.

Eric always liked the action of farming and while his dad and brother managed to farm around full-time off-farm jobs, he has found ways to establish himself as a full-time farmer by “doing things on the side to make ends meet.”
On May 13, 2017, the Monroe County Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Committee had the honor of interviewing five future leaders who had applied for our scholarships, awarded each year to three deserving candidates with aspirations of a career related to the field of agriculture.
The Monroe County Farm Bureau instituted its newest committee at its July board meeting: the Long-Range Planning and Infrastructure Committee, formed to ensure our financial assets are being managed to provide long-term stability and growth, and that our buildings and grounds will be maintained in superior condition.
The Monroe County Recycling & Green Community Program and Monroe County Farm Bureau offered farmers an opportunity to recycle large truck, tractor and combine tires on Aug. 23.
