Deer hunters in a dozen northern Lower Peninsula counties are urged to turn in the heads of harvested deer to an MDNR check station or drop box for bovine tuberculosis testing this hunting season. If testing quotas aren’t met by year’s end, the USDA could reevaluate the entire state’s TB status, imperiling Michigan’s beef and dairy farmers.
Clara Milarch of the Sanilac FFA Chapter came out on top of this year’s competition, followed by runner-up Daisy Rodgers of the Camden-Frontier FFA. Also competing in the final round were Kaylynn Kappen, Sanilac FFA; Sydney Sutliff, North Huron FFA; Adalee Thelen, Ionia FFA; and Sam Kneebone, Sanilac FFA.

According to a recent American Farm Bureau Federation survey, consumers will spend less on the classic Thanksgiving dinner (of about 10 people) by nearly 4%. At $46.90, or less than $5 per person, it’s the lowest average cost for a Thanksgiving dinner since 2010.
