LANSING — Michigan Farm Bureau members are asked to please act by Friday, Feb. 9 to tell U.S. agriculture and trade officials to continue negotiations and not withdrawal from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
NAFTA re-negotiations between the U.S., Canada and Mexico are underway and we expect them to reach a critical juncture in the next several weeks.
NAFTA has proven beneficial to agriculture since its implementation 23 years ago. Canada and Mexico account for approximately two-thirds of Michigan's agricultural exports.
Certainly there are areas of the trade agreement that need adjusting and modernizing, but overall, NAFTA has been a tremendous asset to Michigan agriculture. Click here for NAFTA Facts.
