Since 2015 Shiawassee County Farm Bureau’s calendar has been highlighted by Animal Day, a springtime event in which the county’s Promotion and Education team takes an assortment of livestock to visit residents of a local assisted living facility.
This year dozens of residents at Oliver Woods in Owosso took part, coming outside to meet with furry, feathered and hooved members of the surrounding agricultural community.
Promotion & Education Chair Kandi Rivette and her children brought sheep and ducks to the event. They were joined by several other Shiawassee County Farm Bureau members, each bringing a different livestock animal to Oliver Woods:
A local 4-H club also took part, bringing horses to the event, and Farm Bureau member Vaughn Vondrasek brought a tractor.
Oliver Woods provided refreshments for residents and the visiting Farm Bureau volunteers and its own residents who were able to come outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and mingling with the animals.
