Consider sponsoring a high school student to attend the 2020 4-H Capitol Experience March 15-18. That’s when the 2020 4-H Capitol Experience happens — a four-day conference to help prepare youth for active citizenship by focusing on civic engagement and public policy.
Up to 130 teens from around the state will converge on Lansing to experience state government in action and learn how they can influence policy issues. Participants interact with legislators, state agency staff, lobbyists and other resource people to learn how policy is made. Attendees will:
Students who have competed in the high school discussion meet, volunteered at a Project RED, or listed on your county’s State 4-H and FFA 2019 award reports are all great potential groups to reach out to and encourage participation in this civic engagement experience. Teens leave the conference with a charge to share what they’ve learned and engage in other leadership and civic engagement activities back home in their own communities.
Registration is due to the county MSU Extension Office in early February. For more information on how your county board can sponsor a participant, contact your county 4-H program coordinator or contact MFB High School and Collegiate Specialist Katie Eisenberger, 517-679-5444.
