Ninety nominations for the 2020-2021 ProFILE class have been submitted by 38 county Farm Bureaus. Michigan Farm Bureau’s premier leadership development program since 1990, ProFILE takes participants on a 15-month journey deep into the modern agriculture industry with an emphasis on next-level leadership development geared toward equipping them for leadership roles within and beyond Farm Bureau.
In addition to the hats she wears in MFB’s Public Policy Division and Agricultural Ecology Department, Emily Reinart has helped coordinate ProFILE for six years now.
“Maybe it’s a cliché that ‘It’s an honor just to be nominated,’ but there’s a lot of truth there,” Reinart said. “When one of our county Farm Bureaus nominates one of its own for this program, they’re doing the organization and the industry a real service.
“Those initial nominations are sometimes the first hint we get that this individual is showing real promise as a future leader. They’ve clearly caught someone’s eye, and that means something.”
Among other things, Reinart explains, it means that individual—whether they’re chosen for the upcoming ProFILE class or not—is worth investing in.
County Farm Bureaus nominating prospective ProFILErs included: Allegan, Antrim, Arenac, Barry, Benzie-Manistee, Berrien, Clinton, Calhoun, Cass, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Huron, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lapeer, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Mason, Mecosta, Menominee, Missaukee, Monroe, Oakland, Osceola, Ottawa, Presque Isle, Saginaw, Sanilac, St. Clair, St. Joseph, Tuscola, Van Buren, Washtenaw and Wayne.
The next 15-month ProFILE program starts next January and will wrap up in March of 2021. Along the way participants will travel to Washington, D.C., polish their public speaking skills, practice media and consumer relations, learn about agriculture across Michigan and beyond through bus trips and guest speakers and network with other agriculturists to create connections for life.
Nominees interested in taking part in the program submitted applications now being evaluated by an admissions panel composed of program and field staff.
ProFILE is a special project of the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a 501(c)(3) governed by Michigan Farm Bureau’s Board of Directors, which positively contributes to the future of Michigan agriculture through leadership and educational programming.
