Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) is urging members to contact President Trump and members of the state’s Congressional delegation, asking for expedited passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
You can help by texting the phrase “MITRADE” to the number “52886” and follow the instructions provided to send a message to President Trump and your U.S. Representative and Senator.
MFB President Carl Bednarski and American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall both recently emphasized the agriculture sector’s waning patience.
“Farmers are tired of trying to withstand the turbulent economy caused by trade politics and are grasping to protect the state’s $1 billion in ag exports and the nation’s $40 billion in ag exports to Mexico and Canada,” Bednarski said.
Duvall wrote recently that, “The trade situation has tested farmers’ and ranchers’ patience for more than a year now. We are patient people — we’re used to playing a long game. However, we need to have a win in sight.
“Otherwise, patience will soon run out.”
According to MFB National Legislative Counsel John Kran, it is critical lawmakers work together in the coming weeks to get USMCA over the finish line.
“The USMCA will provide a much-needed upgrade to the trading relationship with our two closest neighbors, and a framework for future agreements,” Kran said. “Bottom line – farmers need economic certainty now more than ever. Passing USMCA is an important first-step in this process.
“We know members are busy readying fields and planting crops, but it is imperative that they let lawmakers know how important this issue is to not only their farms but the entire rural community.”
