A free farm drainage field day will be hosted by the Michigan Land Improvement Contractors Association on Sept. 1-2 in Riga. Running from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. both days, attendees can watch demonstrations and hear from experts to become familiar with the latest advancements in agricultural drainage.
As a supporter of the event, Michigan Farm Bureau encourages members to take advantage of the free information and resources being offered.
“Farmers need access to a range of tools to help them manage nutrients and water on their fields, both to improve production and to protect water quality,” said Laura Campbell, MFB’s Ag Ecology manager. “This field day will give them a chance to see some practices that are pretty new to this region: collecting water from tile drains to reuse on the field, additional soil health benefits from cover crop and nutrient management techniques, and the latest research on how farmers can be part of the solution for water quality while still keeping in mind their businesses’ bottom lines.”
RSVPs can be made online at www.michiganlica.org/rsvp. Free boxed lunches will be provided to attendees. The event will be held at 8815 Samaria Road, Riga, MI 49276.
