Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) is asking members to contact their state representatives, House Competitiveness Committee members and Gov. Rick Snyder, urging them to pass important wetlands law reforms within Senate Bill 1211.
MFB supports the bill based on its member-developed wetlands policy that emphasizes the importance of the state retaining its federally delegated authority to implement the Clean Water Act Section 404 (wetlands) program.

According to MFB Government Relations Manager Matt Smego, the legislation will improve the state’s wetlands program in meaningful ways that ensure continued environmental protection and yet allow for future development of the agriculture industry.
“This legislation sponsored by Senator Tom Casperson helps clarify our obligations to administer the federal program while allowing the state to determine the policy focus for state-only wetlands,” Smego explained. “The Senate approved the bill earlier this month, but now the House must pass it for it to have the potential to be signed into law before the end of the year.”
