Traverse City resident and marina operator John Roth is the AgriPac-endorsed Friend of Agriculture candidate for the 104th House District, comprised of Grand Traverse County.
Roth, who has served extensively in recreation and tourism-based roles, is also former chair of the Grand Traverse County Republican Party and served for six years on the county's parks and recreation commission.
His diverse work experience, education and volunteer activities make him a well-rounded candidate who is eager to work with the agriculture sector and has a strong focus on improving Michigan’s regulatory environment.
Roth wrote to AgriPac that his No. 1 goal is to eliminate regulations that harm businesses, and when asked what he considers the biggest problem facing Michigan residents and what the best solution is, he responded:
“Regulations on business and the amount of time businesses spend trying to figure them out. For some businesses, it would be easier to move to a different state where profits would be higher and regulations would be less, but unfortunately for ag businesses, they can't move.”
Roth continued, “The answer is to reduce and simplify our regulations on business with strict oversight on the departments that create them.”
Other facets of the agriculture sector Roth would like to see further supported include growth opportunities for local meat processors, promotion of career and technical education programs, labor services those provided by Great Lakes Agricultural Labor Services, and farm marketing and agritourism.
In addition to his Friend of Agriculture designation, Roth is endorsed by the Michigan Retailers Association, Michigan Association of Builders and Contractors, Michigan Realtors, the Great Lakes Education Project and the Michigan Freedom Network.
