Rob Anderson has been promoted to the position of manager of the Government Relations Department at Michigan Farm Bureau.
As a 30-year veteran of the organization, Anderson is no stranger to the Farm Bureau Family of Companies. During his tenure, he has held the positions of regional representative for the central region, manager of Membership and Field Services, and for the past 20 years has represented the organization on insurance, labor and health issues as a legislative counsel.
Anderson’s wealth of knowledge of the organization and its grassroots structure, as well as his two decades of experience in Michigan’s policy making process, will assist him as he assumes the role of leading the organization’s state legislative and regulatory efforts.
“I appreciate the opportunity to continue to work for our membership who provide us with the grassroots policy issues that affect them every day,” Anderson said. “The transition to my new role will hopefully be seamless, as the relationships with my fellow legislative counsels and members are in place, as well as with the lawmakers and their staff at the state capitol.”
Anderson will report directly to Matt Smego, associate director of MFB’s Public Policy & Commodity Division, and will manage the state legislative counsels, along with the government relations specialist. In addition to managing the government relations staff, he will lead the planning of the Lansing Legislative Seminar, the annual advocacy kick-off event for the organization.
As a result of prior staff changes, Smego will continue to provide oversight for all state and federal advocacy efforts, working with Anderson’s team and National Legislative Counsel John Kran on national issues.
With Anderson’s promotion, he will be conducting a search for a new associate legislative counsel to manage state level issues.
