Next Thursday a wide net will be cast across the northwestern Lower Peninsula in hopes of trawling up from the deep potential policy issues — grist for Farm Bureau’s policy mill.
Dubbed ‘Shop Talk,’ that net will take the form of a remote meeting open to Farm Bureau members across District 9’s five county Farm Bureaus: Benzie-Manistee, Mason, Missaukee, Northwest Michigan and Wexford.
Starting at 6:30 p.m. June 11, members across Dist. 9 can join the Shop Talk discussion via phone or the Zoom online conferencing platform. Click here to join the meeting via Zoom, or dial 929-436-2866 to join by phone. Use meeting ID number 833 8461 2248 and/or password 681904 as necessary.
“We’re hoping that net will bring to the surface every issue and topic our members in District 9 are struggling with,” said Nicole Jennings, the MFB regional manager who helps facilitate Farm Bureau programs from Riverton to Northport to Falmouth. “This is an open forum that feeds into the policy development process. It’s an important opportunity for members with problems or issues to speak up and start taking action toward solving those problems.”
Studious members can bone up on MFB’s state-level policies here; probable issue briefs can also help get gears turning. The American Farm Bureau Federation’s national-level policies are also available online.
“Meeting remotely isn’t our favorite way of coming together, I know,” Jennings said. “But having the technology we do has allowed us to continue moving forward with important business despite all the challenges 2020 has given us.”
