Kent County cattleman Andrew Hagenow of Rockford is vice president of the Michigan Farm Bureau Board of Directors and has served as an at-large director since 2000. Prior to that (1994-95) he served as the Young Farmer representative and chair of the state Young Farmer committee.
Hagenow has enjoyed a diverse agricultural career. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in agriculture and Extension education, initially working in feed sales. In 1991 he chose to farm full-time with his family, raising dairy cows until his father’s retirement in 2009. Today Hagenow raises dairy steers, corn, soybeans and alfalfa.
Hagenow has held several Farm Bureau leadership positions at the county, state and national levels. He chaired AgriPac, MFB’s political action committee, and served on the state-level policy development committee.
He served the Kent County Farm Bureau as its vice president and chair of its policy development committee. Previously he also represented the Midwest region on the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer and Rancher Committee, and chaired its discussion meet subcommittee.
Outside Farm Bureau, Hagenow is involved with the Michigan Cattlemen’s Association, 4-H and the Michigan FFA Association. He represented Region 5 as an FFA state officer, 1984-85.
