AgriPac backs Whiteford in 38th House District

“When I talk with lawmakers in both the Senate and House, they don't even understand the difference between fruit and vegetable farmers and livestock and dairy farmers,” said Whiteford. “It would help if every one of them visited the different types of farms, so they understand the differences before making decisions.”

Kevin Whiteford has earned the Friend of Agriculture designation and endorsement from AgriPac in the race for Michigan’s 38th House District, which encompasses the lakeshore area extending from Saugatuck down through South Haven, Benton Harbor and to the state border.

Whiteford owns a small hay farm in addition to his daily work as a Certified Public Accountant and financial advisor. He also serves on the Downtown Development Authority for the city of South Haven, a position he’s held for the last six years.

Whiteford said he believes the state and federal government misunderstands the needs of small businesses, noting that he’s been a small business owner for the past 25 years. He believes that visiting businesses — including farms — is critical for elected officials.

“When I talk with lawmakers in both the Senate and House, they don't even understand the difference between fruit and vegetable farmers and livestock and dairy farmers,” Whiteford said.

“It would help if every one of them visited the different types of farms, so they understand the differences before making decisions.”

Among Whiteford’s priorities for Michigan are to strengthen and empower communities throughout the state by reducing government regulation for small businesses and protecting the men and women of law enforcement.

Whiteford said he wants to “allow businesses to operate as they know best, which will in turn expand the communities and increase opportunities for our children to succeed.”
