Jackson County’s annual Project R.E.D. (Rural Education Day) was once again a tremendous success this year, welcoming approximately 1,050 third-grade students from across the county.
Hosted with the support of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, Project R.E.D. gives students the opportunity to learn firsthand about agriculture, local farming, and where their food comes from. Through hands-on experiences and demonstrations, students were able to better understand the important role agriculture plays in their everyday lives.
This year’s stations included beef and dairy presented by Charles Loveland; honey bees presented by Jessica Stellar of Stellar Apiaries; pigs presented by the Ron and Julie Ellison family; Michigan products presented by Greg Sandford and his daughter; “Up Close and Personal” presented by JACC FFA; “Magic in Agriculture” presented by Springport FFA; and sheep shearing presented by Riley Hoag of Lenawee FFA.
A special thank you goes out to our outstanding presenters, volunteers, and supporters who continue to generously give their time and talents year after year. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by our agricultural community helped make this event a meaningful and memorable experience for local students.
Project R.E.D. continues to be a favorite event for many involved, and we are grateful for the continued support that allows us to educate and inspire the next generation each year.
