AgriPac calls for support ahead of pivotal 2026 Election

Date Posted: September 9, 2025

Dear Farm Bureau Members:

There’s no better time of the year than fall in Michigan. While you are busy preparing for the upcoming harvest, your staff and leaders at Michigan Farm Bureau are working hard to ensure that Michigan agriculture remains strong and prosperous for generations to come.

One of the ways we strengthen Michigan agriculture is by electing “Friends of Agriculture” to represent our interests in Lansing and Washington, D.C. We need elected officials who understand agriculture and who are willing to work hard for our farmers.

That’s why the 2026 election is so important.

Every seat except the U.S. presidency will be on the ballot, and the leaders we elect will shape policies that directly impact agriculture. Michigan Farm Bureau’s Political Action Committee, AgriPac, works with your county Farm Bureaus to identify and endorse “Friends of Agriculture” — candidates who understand the challenges of farming and will work with us to safeguard and grow Michigan agriculture.

Electing farm-friendly candidates matters. It allows us to advocate for laws and rules that help Michigan farmers thrive, such as these current priorities:

  • State-level priorities: renewing funding for the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program, updating the Cottage Food Law to help small businesses, and making the Michigan Merit Curriculum more flexible for students pursuing Career & Technical Education. We’re also backing bipartisan efforts to improve the permitting process for anaerobic digesters, turning waste into clean energy, reducing landfill use, and improving soil health.
  • Budget advocacy: ensuring key programs at the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continue receiving support and monitoring funding for MSU Extension and AgBioResearch — programs that keep our farms resilient and competitive.
  • National priorities: improving farm bill programs, addressing workforce challenges, and updating the tax code to give farmers certainty and recognize the unique demands of farming.

Your help in finding and supporting farm-friendly candidates is more critical than ever. In 2026, we’ll elect a new governor, attorney general, and secretary of state. Seventeen state senators, including local Farm Bureau members like Senators Kevin Daley, Dan Lauwers, Ed McBroom, and Roger Victory, will be term-limited out. At the national level, Sen. Gary Peters’ retirement opens a historic U.S. Senate race. Our organization will be at the center, leading efforts to protect the future of farming.

You can make a difference by contributing to AgriPac today. Contributions received by Oct. 15, 2025 will be recognized at Michigan Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting:

  • Patriot Level: $500+
  • Red Level: $200–$499
  • White Level: $100–$199
  • Blue Level: $50–$99

Your support ensures agriculture has a strong voice in Lansing and Washington. Visit www.michfb.com/agripac-contributions to contribute online. Personal checks should be made payable to MFB AgriPac; farm or business checks to MFB FarmPac.

Delegates at the 2024 Michigan Farm Bureau Annual Meeting approved creating an AgriPac Funding Task Force. They understand the importance of financially supporting “Friends of Agriculture,” and that support starts with you, our farmer members.

Thank you for standing with Michigan Farm Bureau to protect farming’s future.
