Prusakiewicz Family Farms outside Gaylord recently welcomed visitors from across the state for their annual Spring Goat Open Barn, bringing together farm families, 4-H youth and livestock enthusiasts for an engaging, hands-on goat-buying experience.
The third-generation farm supplied more than 60 goats at the event, most of them going to 4-H youth planning out the upcoming fair season. As a result, goats from Prusakiewicz Family Farms will compete at almost 20 county fairs across the state this year.
On offer were commercial Boer goats born from mid-December 2025 through mid-January 2026. Altogether more than 130 kids were born during this season, which continued through March.
Buyers browsed through the barns to evaluate the animals up close and ask questions. Every specimen was weaned, dewormed, CDT vaccinated and scrapie tagged.
New this year was a bid-board sale format, allowing attendees to place bids in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. The approach helped ensure fairness by giving buyers equal access to the full group of goats rather than a first-come, first-served system.
The strong turnout from 4-H families underlined the importance of youth involvement in agriculture, with many exhibitors taking home animals they’re excited to raise and show.
“We’re incredibly thankful for everyone who came out to support our farm,” said Cyn Prusakiewicz, a member of Otsego County Farm Bureau’s board of directors. “It was great to see so many familiar faces along with new families getting involved in goats and agriculture.”
