Charlevoix honors longtime leader Tim Matchett at annual

Emotions ran high and the tears were real at Charlevoix’s 2025 annual, where honoring the legacy of longtime leader Tim Matchett took center stage. Here his widow Linda Matchett accepts a tribute from Bud Boss, Tim’s successor as county president.

County Farm Bureau annual meetings are meant for celebrating accomplishments and reporting to members about events and activities throughout the year. Charlevoix County Farm Bureau’s 2025 Annual Meeting accomplished all of the above, but in somber tones that echoed the loss of one conspicuously missing piece.

Everyone present felt the absence of longtime Charlevoix leader Tim Matchett, the beloved member, father, husband and friend who passed away May 24 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Never before have I attended a county annual where you could feel love in the room the way it was evident — everywhere — Sept. 22 at The Boat House in Charlevoix.

Matchett’s influence showed in every component, including comments from District 11 Director Pat McGuire, visibly emotional in recounting Tim’s impact on him, personally, and the county Farm Bureau he was part of his whole life.

Current Charlevoix President Bud Boss presented Matchett’s official memorial. Fighting through tears, anyone present could feel the shared friendship — and the shared loss of not just a fellow Farm Bureau member, but a dear friend.

Front and center throughout was Matchett’s lifelong devotion and dedication to his county and state Farm Bureaus, his passion for all of Michigan agriculture, and the legacy he leaves behind.

That legacy was clear to see in Matchett’s beautiful family, all of whom were present for the occasion. His wife Linda accepted a memorial plaque from Boss, and Tim’s son Issac thanked the gathered membership for honoring his father so profoundly, stating how honored and humbled his father would’ve been by the tribute.

It is clear that Matchett’s work, dedication, and legacy will live on with not only his Farm Bureau family, but with all of Michigan agriculture — the people, the family and the industry all improved by his contributions and lifetime of service.
