County FBs encouraged to welcome local judges to annual meetings

Just like legislators, judges are elected officials and generally welcome the opportunity to build connections with their farmer constituents.

To elevate the organization’s relationships with judges across the state, Michigan Farm Bureau’s board of directors encourages the state’s 65 county-level Farm Bureaus to consider inviting local judges to attend their annual meetings this summer and autumn.

“Judges should be aware of the importance of Michigan agriculture to the broader community,” said Andy Kok, MFB’s general secretary and legal counsel. “It’s important to remember that judges are elected officials just like legislators, and many will welcome the opportunity to build or renew connections with our farmer members.

“Michigan Supreme Court justices frequently attend our state annual meeting,” Kok added, and are already aware of Farm Bureau’s political involvement and agriculture’s economic significance.

Other Farm Bureau events, from legislative breakfasts to routine board meetings, are also helpful for keeping judges in touch with the communities they represent in the courtroom.
