District-level Young Farmer Discussion Meets are a great way to kick off your year, connecting with Young Farmer peers over issues that matter. In addition you might even squeeze in a little bowling, trivia and touring.

Discussion meets are a leadership competition designed to help Young Farmers practice their conversational skills — vital skills that come in handy next time you want to chime in at a county Farm Bureau board meeting, school board or just around the kitchen table.

This year’s district-level topic is: Young farmers and ranchers are finding they need to diversify their farm portfolio. What are some ways that young farmers and ranchers can utilize diversification to explore new revenue sources? How can Farm Bureau support YF&R members as they strengthen their farm and ranch businesses?

Bring your ideas and enthusiasm, and feel free to research ahead of time; prepared notes are welcome. Every district will discuss the same topic, however a back-up topic is in the guidebook in case there are enough participants for a second round.

Participants who advance from the district level can win prizes competing in the state contest, where the winner takes home $2,000 and the chance to compete in and travel to the national competition in San Antonio at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting next January.

Visit michfb.com/yfdiscussionmeet for more information and check out the guidebook for dates, times and locations.
