Traverse City native Justin Tomei has joined Michigan Farm Bureau’s public policy team, beginning work Jan. 12 as the newest associate legislative counsel within the government relations department. The avid outdoorsman slots naturally into the organization’s role supporting legislative and regulatory advocacy on issues related to transportation, energy and natural resources.

Tomei earned his political-science degree at Grand Valley State University before a four-year stint as political affairs coordinator with the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, where he focused on candidate districts, election data, campaign strategy and supporting the Indiana Chamber PAC Board.

More recently Tomei worked as policy and government affairs manager for the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, where he advocated for organizational policies in the legislature through lobbying, testimony, policy research and grassroots advocacy efforts.

“Justin brings a wealth of experience from his time at MUCC and his strong background in wildlife management,” said Rob Anderson, manager of MFB’s government relations department. “His expertise will add real value for our members as we work to address ongoing wildlife challenges across the state.”

Tomei is also a recent graduate of the 2025 Great Lakes Leadership Academy Emerging Leader Program.

He lives near Grand Rapids with his wife Ashley and their daughter.
