McBain kids ‘scream’ for ice cream month, dairy tales

McBain Community Librarian Diane Eisenga reads ‘Tales of the Dairy Godmother’ for young patrons.
Date Posted: July 24, 2025

The McBain Community Library hosted Missaukee County Farm Bureau’s Promotion & Education team July 15 for a celebration of the 2025 summer reading program, themed “Color Our World.”

Librarian Diane Eisenga read Viola Butler’s Tales of the Dairy God Mother to an attentive group of hungry young minds.

After story time, the youngsters enjoyed some crafts, dairy worksheets and “Color Our Dairy Farms” outlines.

“I contributed a lesson on ice cream,” said Missaukee P&E Chair Ellen Vanderwal, who afterwards treated kids to some real-world examples at a local parlor, the Twisted Cow.
