For nearly two decades, MSU has not had an active farmer serving on its Board of Trustees.

Sen. Roger Victory wants to change that, and Michigan Farm Bureau’s Political Action Committee — AgriPac — is backing his bid.

AgriPac Chair and MFB District 2 Director Jennifer Lewis formally announced AgriPac’s endorsement of Victory for the MSU Board of Trustees during the organization’s Lansing Legislative Seminar (LLS), held Tuesday.

In addition to serving in the state legislature for nearly 14 years, both in the Michigan House and Senate, Victory is a former county Farm Bureau president and a graduate of both MFB’s ProFILE Leadership program and the Great Lakes Leadership Academy.

“Importantly, he continues to farm in Ottawa County, staying directly connected to the challenges and opportunities facing today’s farmers,” Lewis told the group of more than 300 MFB members gathered at LLS.

“He will bring a much-needed agricultural perspective to our land-grant university, grounded in real-world experience and a deep appreciation for farming, research, and education.”

Victory said he was humbled to receive AgriPac’s endorsement, reflecting on the importance of the group’s support throughout his time as a lawmaker and noting the statewide nature of running for the trustee seat.

“Running for MSU trustees is like running for governor or a U.S. Senate seat,” Victory said.

“And I tell you what, receiving this endorsement is like putting the wind into my sails as we travel the great state of Michigan, bringing that voice of agriculture and the opportunity to Michigan State University.”
