Michigan’s own Muskegon County Farm Bureau is among the few Midwestern recipients of a Spring 2023 White-Reinhart Grant from the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.

Muskegon’s award will help fund its planned Career Ag-xploration event, which connects students and families with local farm-sector employers to learn more about those agribusinesses. The top four participating schools will receive ag-accurate books including How Did That Get in My Lunchbox?, Full of Beans: Henry Ford Grows a Car and The Beeman.

Also on Muskegon’s shopping list are 15 Michigan Commodity Facts, furthering their partnership with the Agribusiness Talent Council.

Other White-Reinhardt grant recipients this go-around included county Farm Bureaus in Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Altogether the Foundation awarded $10,000 in grants this cycle, recognizing exceptional county Farm Bureau work toward ag-literacy programs.

Awards are funded through the White-Reinhardt Fund for Education, which acknowledges communities and educators who engage with students on the fundamental role of agriculture in our everyday lives.

Grants are awarded twice a year, in the spring and fall. State and county Farm Bureaus may apply for $1,000 grants in support of new or existing K-12 education programs. Organizations and schools can work with their local Farm Bureau to apply for the grants, which are available on a competitive basis.

The White-Reinhardt Fund is a project of the Foundation that sponsors scholarships and grants in cooperation with the American Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee. The fund is named in honor of Berta White and Linda Reinhardt, two former committee chairs.
