Muskegon County Young Farmer co-chairs Mikayla Gerwig and Reese Watson knew just the thing for encouraging their peers to release some tension before lowering their heads and charging into the 2021 growing season.
On May 1 they welcomed the county’s Young Farmers — both established and several new members — to an axe-throwing gathering at Kat’s Alley and Tomahawk Lanes. The assembled growers threw axes and enjoyed pizza and fellowship before the frantic pace of planting drew their focus to more serious matters.
Reese Watson and Seth Arends competed to see who had the best aim while throwing two-handed.
They even got MFB’s Deb Schmucker involved — via text message — when Reese found out the Field Operations Director was hatchet-handy and called her out for photographic proof.
“Our Young Farmers had a great time throwing tomahawks in Ravenna,” Watson said. “Thank you to everyone who helped put this event together, as well as all those who were able to attend.”
Both co-chairs added that besides being a lot of fun, the evening was very easy to plan and — best of all — reached two new prospect members.
