Steve’ll help you figure out where the money’s coming from

Date Posted: July 15, 2021

Farm Bureau members across the Thumb and beyond are encouraged to block off some time on their calendars this month to join AgriStrategies President Steve Kluemper as he walks farmers through some tough questions they should be asking and answering in preparing their farms for the future. Hosted by Distict 6, the series will take place via Zoom and so is open to anyone — even non-Thumbers — interested in the material.

Kluemper will lead three hourlong sessions, each focusing on a major step toward developing a realistic master financial plan. Here’s a preview Q&A to set the stage for prospective attendees:

Q: Why should a farmer take time out of their busy schedules to tune in?

Steve: Much like farms must make a crop plan a priority so all inputs and equipment are available and ready to go at the right time, it’s crucial that farms and families also make their financial plan a priority so they can answer the question: “Where will the money come from?”

Q: Why won’t a farmer want to miss out on this series?

Steve: As farmers determine if their farm is ready for the future, they won’t want to miss an opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback during the live Q&A.

Q: Why is it important that farmers of all life stages join in?

Steve: Every generation depends on the others to provide financing in one way or another to achieve their goals. Younger generations need financing and access to resources to start and grow. Older generations need financing and access to replacement capital, labor and management to be able to retire, keep the farm income stream viable, and support their expenses in retirement. It’s important for all generations to communicate their plans with each other, and agree on reasonable expectations of how they’ll work together to achieve their goals.

Register here to join the three hourlong Zoom sessions, each starting at 9 a.m.:

  • June 3 — What are your goals?
  • June 10 — What financing do you need?
  • June 17 — What information do you need to get financing?

Participants will finish each session with new knowledge, new tools and a solid action plan so they can put their new skills to work right away.

If you’re unable to attend the scheduled sessions, register anyway because recordings will be made available following each session. For more information, contact Beth Rupprecht, 989-640-6913.
