Michigan Farm Bureau’s AgriPac supports incumbent Sen. Jon Bumstead in the Nov. 8 general election. Bumstead is running in the newly redrawn 32nd district that includes Muskegon, Oceana, Mason, Manistee and Benzie counties.

Bumstead currently represents the state’s 34th district, a role he’s held since 2018. Prior to the 34th district, he served as a state representative in House District 100.

“I was exposed to farming and processing at an early age,” said Bumstead, noting he grew up near a Gerber baby-food plant. “Many of my family and friends have farmed or worked in the agricultural industry for decades.”

As a representative of District 32, he said he’ll continue to work to cut back state-government red tape and lower taxes.

“Fuel, fertilizer and seed prices all going so high up are huge challenges,” Bumstead said of farmers. “These challenges need to be addressed with thoughtful solutions through discussion happening nationwide with industry and policy professionals to best handle the high-input costs happening.”

Other organizations associated with Bumstead include the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Great Lakes Education Project, and the Insurance Alliance.

Bumstead currently chairs the Natural Resources and Environmental Quality Appropriations subcommittee.

To spur growth in rural Michigan, he will prioritize expanding broadband to rural areas.

“Investments in our infrastructure is the first step,” he said. “We have already invested million into this expansion (see SB 565), but there is still more that will need to be done to help with business efficiency and growth down the road.”
