YOUNG FARMER HARVEST FOR ALL GOLF SCRAMBLE A SUCCESS…THANK YOU!
The 3rd Annual Young Farmer (YF) Harvest for All Golf Scramble Fundraiser on Sunday, June 15th was a huge success, yet again. We had great golfers, great weather, and great food. Nine teams competed this year for 1st place and a $400 cash prize. Snow Snake Ski & Golf hosted us on their beautifully maintained 18-hole course and provided golfers with a delicious, all inclusive, taco bar for dinner. All profits from the event will be donated to the four food pantries in Clare and Gladwin counties. In addition, the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) will provide a financial match up to $1,000 (per county) to support the donations. That is a total of just over $4100.00 donated!
WHAT IS HARVEST FOR ALL? Harvest for All is a year-long campaign, created by the American Farm Bureau Federation, that encourages Farm Bureau members across the country and in Michigan to work together to help fight hunger in their communities. Even in one of the most agriculturally diverse and vibrant states in the nation, hunger still exists. According to the Food Bank Council of Michigan, currently 15% of Michigan residents and 18% of all children are considered food insecure. Clare County is #1 in the state for the highest level of food insecurity with 20% of residents not knowing where their next meal is coming from. Clare County’s level of food insecurity is 71.6% higher than the national average. Gladwin County is #15 in the state for the highest level of food insecurity with 17% of residents not knowing where their next meal is coming from. Gladwin County’s level of food insecurity is 48.6% higher than the national average.
