Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist

A 2008 Insurance Research Council (IRC) study showed that about 14% of drivers were uninsured. If a driver and/or passengers are injured due to the negligence of an uninsured or underinsured driver, they may seek compensation for injuries and damages through the uninsured motorist (UM) and underinsured motorist (UIM) portions of their policy.

  • Uninsured Motorist coverage pays for your injuries when someone without car insurance causes an accident or when you're hit by a hit-and-run driver.
  • Underinsured Motorist coverage kicks in when someone else causes an accident but doesn't have enough insurance to cover all your costs.
