Agent Charitable Fund, MFB Family of Companies grants help in fight against hunger

Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan’s Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) and the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies (MFBFoC) are fighting food insecurity across the state, awarding over $27,000 in Feeding the Future and Agents for Change grants in June.

ACF nonprofit grants

Eight Michigan nonprofit organizations were recently awarded hunger-relief grants to fight food insecurity in their communities. Feeding the Future Grants are administered by the ACF.

Eligible recipients are nominated by their local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the organization, population being served and overall goal of the program. 501(c)(3) nonprofits can utilize Michigan Farm Bureau’s Find an Agent tool to locate an agent in their area. The next round of Feeding the Future Grants is open and applications will be accepted until Aug. 1.

Allegan County Food Pantry — Allegan

Grant funds will be used to purchase non-perishable food items for neighbors in need. The Allegan County Food Pantry was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Tim Heffner.

Believer’s Food Pantry — Grand Ledge

Grant funds will be used to purchase fresh and shelf-stable items for food insecure families in Eaton, Ingham, Clinton and Ionia counties. Believer’s Food Pantry was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Jack Griffin.

Community Foundation of Greater Rochester — Rochester

Grant funds will be directed to the Fueling Kids’ Futures program, which supplies food to hungry students in the Brighton area. The Community Foundation of Greater Rochester was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Geoffrey Herndon.

Community Reformed Church — Zeeland

Grant funds will be used to purchase shelf-stable food for the church’s micro pantry. Community Reformed Church was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Andy Brummel.

Crossroads Farms at The Lanes — South Boardman

Grant funds will be used to purchase food for weekly programming and special events. Crossroads Farm was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Christina Feike.

I-92 Ministries — Clinton

Grant funds will be used to purchase food to sustain I-92’s weekend food pack program for students facing food insecurity. I-92 Ministries was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Laura Terry-Borden.

Mulliken Area Food Pantry — Mulliken

Grant funds will be used to purchase reliable, nutritious groceries to food-insecure families in rural western Eaton County. The Mulliken Area Food Pantry was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Ashley Burkett.

West Midland Family Center — Shepherd

Grant funds will be used to support the center’s Children’s Nutrition Program and help provide fresh, balanced meals to hundreds of children each day. The West Midland Family Center was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Matt Larson.

MFBFoC and ACF School Grants

Five Michigan school districts were recently awarded grants to fight childhood food insecurity through in-school hunger-relief programming. Agents for Change grants are administered by the ACF and MFBFoC.

Eligible recipients are nominated by their local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the school and overall goal of the program. School districts can utilize Michigan Farm Bureau’s Find an Agent tool to locate an agent in their area. The next round of Agents for Change Grants is open and applications will be accepted until Friday, August 1.

Caro Community Schools — Caro

Grant funds will be used to purchase food for the school district’s food pantry. Caro Community Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Kim Tacey.

Fremont Public Schools — Fremont

Grant funds will be used to purchase non-perishable snacks and support Pathfinder Elementary students between meals. Fremont Public Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Jonathan Workman and Nathan Landheer.

Gobles Public Schools — Gobles

Grant funds will be used to provide proper nutrition for high school students in the after-school strength and wellness program, to ensure they are fueled post-workout for recovery. Gobles Public Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Jaime Flees.

Les Cheneaux Community Schools — Cedarville

Grant funds will be used to sustain and strengthen the school’s food pantry efforts, including backpack programs and school day snacks. Les Cheneaux Community Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Caitlin Galer.

Most Holy Trinity School — Fowler

Grant funds will be used to provide lunch for students on Fridays during the school year. Most Holy Trinity School was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Andy Weber. 

The ACF, whose mission is to end hunger in Michigan, is a donor-designated fund administered through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture. The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a 501(c)(3) governed by Michigan Farm Bureau’s board of directors, positively contributes to the future of Michigan agriculture through leadership and educational programming.
