Mason writes four new members at annual fish fry

An annual pre-planting fish fry has become the marquee membership event on Mason County Farm Bureau’s calendar.

Mason County Farm Bureau hosted its annual member-appreciation fish fry March 18, with 130 members, prospective members and their families gathering at Schade Farms in Riverton Township.

The annual gathering has become an event our members look forward to every year as winter slowly loosens its grip. Members always enjoy the opportunity to come together before spring planting, with many staying long after dinner.

And by the end of the night four new regular members had been written!

Guests enjoyed another amazing meal prepared by board member Burke Larsen and Membership Captain Jesse Peterson, with side dishes and desserts provided by several other members.

Mason County Farm Bureau President Jake Anderson welcomed guests and reminded everyone about the value of membership, sharing his own experience and explaining where membership dues go, including the organization’s lobbying work in Lansing and D.C. on behalf of Michigan farmers and agriculture.

New Farm Bureau Insurance agents Lane Stotler and Jameson Tomaski were welcomed and provided the opportunity to introduce themselves to the group.

District 102 Representative Curt VanderWall — also a Mason County Farm Bureau member — spoke briefly and led the prayer.

After dinner 30 giveaways provided by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Wayne Brown were raffled off by Young Farmer Chair Meg Cooper and District 9 Young Farmer Representative Sam Schade.
