Wexford County Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Committee rolled up its sleeves and brought a splash of color to the Northern District Fair, Aug. 11-16 in Cadillac. Families were invited to experience agriculture in action at a hands-on tie-dye station featuring natural dyes made from everyday kitchen ingredients.
More than 30 families joined in, creating vibrant shirts, totes and bandanas with hues pulled straight from the pantry. Golden yellow from turmeric, deep purple from cabbage, and rich brown from coffee showed just how versatile and fun agricultural products can be. With both youth and adult sizes on hand, there was something for everyone to take home and wear with pride.
Beyond their colorful creations, the event sparked meaningful conversations.
Community members met local Young Farmers, learned about Agriculture in the Classroom opportunities and other upcoming Farm Bureau events. It was an opportunity to connect, create and view agriculture from a completely new perspective.
Thanks to a generous $600 donation from the Emington Shultz Agency, Wexford County Farm Bureau logos are now making their way around town on shirts and totes. Families enjoyed a free, family-friendly activity and the committee discovered new interest in community programs as well as potential new members.
